Dear Families and Friends of

Immaculate Heart of Mary,

Both Isaiah and John the Baptist speak directly of God’s kingdom to come, though in a very different language. This juxtaposition invites us into the frequent “both/and” nature of Catholic faith. In his letter to the Romans, Saint Paul invites the community to hold on to hope in the fullness of the kingdom, and to live in its “harmony” in the present. Given the broken and war-torn state of our world today, it might be difficult to trust that the peace and justice of God will ever come to fruition. Violence and conflict seem to prevail in our families, our neighborhoods, our countries, and throughout the world. This can overwhelm us and make us feel small and useless in the face of evil. Today’s reading invites us to trust above all in the kingship of Christ, who will bring peace and will bring justice. The Christian faith is one of hope rather than despair, life rather than death and light rather than darkness. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Imaculado Corazon de Maria,

Tanto Isaías como Juan Bautista hablan directamente del reino de Dios para comprar, aunque en un idioma muy diferente. Esta yuxtaposición nos invita a la frecuente naturaleza de "ambos/y" de la fe católica. En su carta a los romanos, San Pablo invita a la comunidad a aferrarse a la esperanza en la plenitud del reino y a vivir en su "armonía" en el presente. Dado el estado roto y devastado por la guerra de nuestro mundo actual, puede ser difícil confiar en que la paz y la justicia de Dios llegarán a materializarse. La violencia y el conflicto parecen prevalecer en nuestras familias, nuestros barrios, nuestros países y en todo el mundo. Esto puede abrumarnos y hacernos sentir pequeños e inútiles ante el mal. La lectura de hoy nos invita a confiar sobre todo en la realeza de Cristo, que traerá paz y traerá justicia. La fe cristiana es una de esperanza en lugar de desesperación, de vida en lugar de muerte y de luz en lugar de oscuridad. Inmaculado Corazón de María, ruega por nosotros.
